As the weather becomes warmer and the snow starts to melt, rivers start to flow at a higher rate and small streams that were hidden beneath the snow become visible. I took some pictures of both of these typer of rivers today.

The first pictures are from the large flow of the Kymi river. Most of the river is molten and is flowing rapidly because of melting ice depositing water to the river. There is still some ice and snow at the river, and the mouth of the river is still frozen at the surface.

At the Kymi river, there is a memorial to the Tzar of Russia, Alexander III. This is because he had a fishing house nearby. The memorial was damaged by bullets, apparently at the time of the Finnish civil war in 1918.

At the mouth of the Kymi river, there are several smaller rivers that flow from it. Some of these rivers are hidden by snow during the winter, but are now visible at some places. We will take a close look at one of these rivers.
