Lappeenranta Fortress

The Lappeenranta Fortress is a small fortress that was built in the 1700’s. It has been used by the Swedish and Russian armies for military purposes, and by the White faction of the Finnish civil war in 1918 as a prison. I was visiting Lappeenranta for business reasons and I did not have too much time to take pictures of everything interesting. Regardless, here is some of the pictures from the fortress that I took.

The First pictures show the walls of the fortress. It is a bit difficult to see the scale from the pictures, but the walls are about 15 meters high.

The fortress itself is not very big. There are some old buildings and equipment in the fortress. Some of the buildings are from the 1700’s, but some are newer and all have been renovated.
