The Imperial Fishing Lodge of Langinkoski

The imperial fishing lodge of Langinkoski is an old fishing area located near the mouth of the Kymi River in Kotka, Finland. The fishing lodge was built in 1889 by the orders of the Russian tsar Alexander III when the Grand Duchy of Finland was under Russian rule. The fishing lodge was turned into a museum in 1933.

Few of the biggest buildings in the area are the fish hatchery and the imperial fishing lodge itself. There are also other similiar looking buildings like the fishers house and an unnamed warehouse.

The small orthodox chapel is the oldest building in the area and was built in the early 1800’s.

The area around the fishing lodge contains dense forest and small river branches from the larger Kymi River. Small bridges are built over the rivers and WW2 era trenches that were part of the Kymi defense line are located in the forest.

The caretaker’s house was formerly used by the caretaker who looked after the lodge and the grounds. Now it contains a cafe. There is another unnamed building right next to it that looks like somekind of a small warehouse.

From the imperial fishing lodge, the Kymi River and the bridge over it is visible. The surface of the river was very low when I took these pictures. The smaller branches were completely dry at places. I’m not sure why but maybe it has something to do with the large dam at Koivukoski further up the river.

The emperor’s pier is located further south past the bridge. It is where Alexander III would arrive when visiting the fishing lodge with a steam boat. The memorial stone near the pier was placed there in 1896 but was damaged around 1918. It is suspected that it was either shot during war or damaged during construction work.
