Snowfall at Porvoo Old Town

Porvoo old town is a part of the city of Porvoo which contains old houses from the 17th and 18th centuries. The skyline of the old town is dominated by an old cathedral, which is from the 15th century. Right next to the old town there is a river called Porvoonjoki, which runs through the city of Porvoo. There are also the ruins of an old hillfort and an old railway station near the old town.

I visited the old town in winter to take some pictures during a short trip there. In addition to visiting the old town, I also went to see some other areas nearby, like the old railway station. I waited for the weather to be poor and for snow to start falling, since I thought I could take more interesting pictures then than during a clear winter day. The photos are taken with Portra 400 film and unfortunately something went wrong during development and many pictures had white lines on them. I tried fixing them by editing but some pictures had to be discarded because of the development problems.

On the Porvoonjoki are old beach sheds along the coast of the river. The colours of the houses of the old town looked nice from the other side of the river. The river however had an ugly yellow colour.

The largest buildings in the old town the cathedral. The oldest parts of the building were built in the 13th century. Most of the building is a bit newer from the 15th century. The building has been rebuilt a few times due to it being damaged in wars and fires. The large building right to the cathedral is the belltower.

Here are some pictures from the streets of the old town. Not many people were out there since it was snowing a lot.

The old train station was not easily accessible during winter, since I had to walk through thick snow. I had some pictures from other areas around the old town but those were ruined by the film development problems. I wanted to take some more pictures from the old train station, but this film roll ran out. I had more film with me, but I knew I would only take a few more pictures so I decided to stop taking pictures and not load a new roll.
