A Summer Walk, Part II, Along the Kymi River

The eastern branch of the Kymi River splits into two to the north of Kotka. The western branch of this split contains a large island with dams on both sides. Along the way is the Siika Rapids, a popular fishing place. Here are pictures from the way to the dam from southern end of the Kymi River.

The Kymi River between Lanki Rapids and Siika Rapids is calm.

The Siika rapids is a popular fishing place. The Munkholma islands on the river split it into many parts that go trough the rapids.

The smaller dam at Vulkko is an old small dam that is inside this building. This one produces electricity, while the larger seems to just control the water level.

The larger dam between Koivu Rapids and Väli Rapids is a modern automatically working dam. The doors open automatically to regulate the water level.
